Ginny Boydston, CTRS
Ginny Boydston, director of therapeutic recreation program at Methodist, has introduced thousands of people with disabilities to activities and sports such as quad rugby, tennis, cycling, basketball, water and snow skiing, fencing, power soccer, scuba diving, sled hockey, road racing, swimming, hunting, fishing and ballet. Her support even helped one former patient make the track team for two Paralympic Games. While some in her position might host a sports clinic and be done with it, Ginny’s involvement stretches far beyond initial instruction. She’s the bus driver who ferries her teams to regional tournaments. The surrogate mother who encourages athletes to make healthy choices and stay in shape. The equipment manager who makes sure everyone has the tools they need to participate. The fund-raiser who applies for grants and wheedles money out of sponsors. And the team coach who does as much counseling in her office as she does on the sidelines.
