Initial Assessment and Admission Appointment ... 601-364-3477

The admissions process usually begins with a referral from a case manager at an acute care hospital or from a physician. A medical assessment by one of our community outreach nurses follows. These specially trained nurses evaluate each prospective patient to ensure that they are ready for and could benefit from treatment at Methodist Rehabilitation Center.

The initial assessment almost always occurs in a patient's room at an acute care hospital following injury. The patient, a family member or physician should contact an admissions representative to set up an appointment. A community outreach nurse will assess the patient's current condition and review their medical history.

When a patient is referred for admission, their insurance information is verified. The patient will need to provide the admissions representative with: identification, hospitalization insurance cards (commercial insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, etc.) or individual hospitalization policy, and if applicable, an employer’s group claim form. After verification, an admissions representative will explain what insurance benefits will pay and discuss any out-of-pocket expenses. Patients are notified prior to admission if a deposit is required. Patients may want to verify coverage with their insurer before admission.

Financial Assistance Policy: Contact our admissions representative for details.

Methodist participates in several health maintenance organizations (HMO) and preferred provider organizations (PPO).

During the admission appointment, patients will be asked to sign consent forms for treatment at Methodist Rehabilitation Center.

Upon admission, each patient will be assigned a nurse and a case manager. The case manager will coordinate each patient’s rehabilitation program and work with physicians, nurses, therapists, support staff and insurance companies to help reach rehabilitation goals. The case manager can answer any questions or concerns I patient may have during their stay.

Patients will be issued an identification bracelet that should be worn at all times.

Additional Questions?
» How will I get to Methodist Rehab?

The referring physician, social worker or case manager will arrange the most appropriate transportation for your medical condition.

» What should I bring?

For therapy, patients need comfortable, washable clothing, such as warm-up suits, sweats, shorts and T-shirts, as well as tennis shoes or rubber-soled walking shoes. There’s no need to overpack – complimentary washers and dryers are available for personal use. Patients should bring any devices that they use such as slings, braces, wheelchairs, canes, corsets, crutches, splints and TENS units with them to the hospital. Your physician also will want to see the medications you’re currently taking.

» What will my room be like? And can a family member or sitter stay with me?

We offer private and semi-private rooms that come equipped with a telephone, TV and an extra bed or convertible couch for family members or caregivers who wish to stay the night. Feel free to personalize the room with photos, posters or a battery-operated radio or CD player. Please, no tape on the walls.

» What kind of staff will care for me?

Your care will be guided by a doctor specially trained in rehabilitation medicine. He will coordinate treatment with a team of health professionals including rehabilitation nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, respiratory therapists, speech-language therapists, neuropsychologists, therapeutic recreation specialists, clinical dietitians, case managers, biomedical engineers and orthotists and prosthetists.

» What's a 'typical' day like?

Therapy schedules depend on each person’s diagnosis, condition and goals. However, patients are expected to participate in three or more hours of therapy each weekday and half that time on Saturdays. Patients rest or visit with friends, family or other patients in the evenings.

» How long will I stay in rehab?

That depends on your diagnosis and course of treatment.

» Will Methodist Rehab be covered by my insurance?

Our admissions staff will verify your insurance coverage before you arrive.
